Charmed: Is Dan the real father of Chris?

Greg Vaughan answers a long-standing Charmed question: is Dan the real father of Chris, or is Chris actually Leo’s son? He answers in an interview!
The question surrounding Chris’s paternity in Charmed continues to spark discussions among fans of the series. During an interview conducted on our channel at the Book of Shadows Con organized by Union Conventions in early 2026, Greg Vaughan revisited a storyline that could have changed the history of his character… but also the entire balance of the Halliwell family.
Known for playing Dan Gordon in the second season of the series, the actor spoke about a possible return in the later seasons of Charmed. A return that ultimately never happened, but one that might have altered certain elements of the storyline.
Greg Vaughan discusses a planned return to Charmed
In the interview, Greg Vaughan explains that a return for his character had been considered.
“I was supposed to come back to the series, maybe for six episodes, in one of the later seasons. But I couldn’t do it because of another shoot. What I know about the planned storyline, however, is that Dan and Piper were going to have a child, I think.”
Dan Gordon appears in season 2 of Charmed as the neighbor of Piper Halliwell and a romantic rival to Leo Wyatt. The character later disappears from the series when Piper ultimately chooses Leo.
According to the actor, the writers had considered bringing Dan back in the later seasons. Which could have opened the door to a significant development in his storyline with Piper.
Could Dan have been Chris’s father in Charmed?
In the same interview, the actor also mentions the questions this storyline could have raised regarding the character of Chris, played by Drew Fuller.
“I don’t know if Drew Fuller, who plays Chris, was supposed to be that child. But there are always questions about whether Chris is Dan’s son or Leo’s. I think that’s for the audience to decide.”
In the series, Chris Halliwell — also known as Chris Perry — first appears in season 5. His true identity is later revealed in season 6. He is actually the son of Piper Halliwell and Leo Wyatt, who traveled from the future to prevent a tragic fate.
Greg Vaughan’s comments suggest, however, that another narrative direction may have been considered during the development of the show.
A storyline ultimately rewritten by the writers
The actor also explains that his unavailability led to changes in the way this storyline was written.
“And then, since I couldn’t come back to the series, they also had to restructure that whole storyline and how it was written. But it’s clear that it would have been a very different dynamic.”
A question that still fuels fan debates
Several years after the end of the series, discussions about Charmed remain very active within the fan community. Just like the debates about their favorite characters. The idea that Dan might have played a larger role in Piper’s story and in the Halliwell family timeline is one of the hypotheses that fans have continued to explore over time. So, what is your opinion?
