At Stranger Fan Meet 9 by People Convention, Natalia Dyer, the actress behind Nancy Wheeler in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, shared detailed insights into some of the most challenging scenes she filmed and the significant character growth Nancy experienced over the show’s multiple seasons.

A Physically and Emotionally Demanding Scene with Jonathan Byers

One of Dyer’s most memorable experiences on set involved an intense scene with Jonathan Byers. She explained the difficulties of filming in harsh conditions:

“The scene between Nancy and Jonathan this season was difficult. There was a lot going on emotionally, but we were also completely soaked and cold for two or three days. We had to take off and put back on our wet clothes, and try to keep our teeth from chattering while still maintaining the emotional moment.”

Despite the physical challenge, Dyer appreciated the acting experience:

“It was very fun, I really loved it, but yes, it was very hard, very difficult. Physically, that was the most complicated scene to shoot.”

Interestingly, some scenes presented a different kind of challenge. Natalia noted:

“There are also scenes that are harder because you can’t stop laughing. Everyone is having such a good time, and it becomes difficult for other reasons.”

These reflections highlight the realities of filming Stranger Things, from navigating practical effects and special effects sequences to capturing the emotional depth of Nancy Wheeler’s story.

From season 1, Nancy Wheeler was portrayed as a studious, reserved teenager. Dyer reflected on the transformation of the character throughout the series:

“I could never have predicted where Nancy would end up when we first started filming. She had this very studious, introverted side, and in the end, she just charges ahead. I feel like with each season, she became more confident. She faced new challenges that made her more self-assured, until she became truly confident—which we definitely don’t see in season 1.”

This progression illustrates Nancy’s journey from a high school student navigating small-town dynamics to a central figure confronting the supernatural threats of the Upside Down.

A Fearless Heroine in the Latest Stranger Things Seasons

Dyer highlights Nancy’s evolution in the most recent seasons:
“Seeing Nancy in the final season, armed and running through the Upside Down, I never would have imagined that… but it was great.”
