Why is the Stranger Things ending so meaningful according to Nell Fisher ?

Nell Fisher discusses a difficult scene and the emotional ending of Stranger Things.
In the world of Stranger Things, actors often share behind-the-scenes insights from a production that is both demanding and immersive. During the Stranger Fan Meet 9 by People Convention, Nell Fisher opened up about two defining moments from her experience. One particularly difficult scene to film and an emotional final sequence, according to her. The actress, who takes on a more prominent role in Season 5, stands out as one of the key new faces in this final chapter.
A challenging scene for Nell Fisher
With the introduction of new characters and the evolution of existing storylines, Season 5 of Stranger Things places greater emphasis on the younger generation. In this context, Nell Fisher plays a significant role within the cast. Indeed, she’s appearing in key scenes that help shape the series’ conclusion. Her growing importance on screen is reflected in the moments she describes, highlighting both the physical challenges and emotional weight of filming this final season.
Among her most intense memories, Nell Fisher points to a scene that left a strong impression. She explains:
I think one scene that really kind of grossed me out was the scene where I had to dive through the membrane with the goo. It was so disgusting.
This sequence, characteristic of the organic and unsettling aesthetic of the Upside Down in Stranger Things, required significant physical commitment. The actress recalls spending an entire day filming under those conditions:
It was like a whole day of just going through and getting my head all slimy and disgusting. That was pretty gross.
Scenes like this highlight the attention to detail in the show’s production, created by the Duffer brothers, where actors are often immersed in demanding practical effects environments.
A meaningful and emotional ending
In contrast to that unpleasant experience, Nell Fisher also shared a particularly meaningful moment: the very last scene she filmed. In fact, Nell Fisher thinks that the ending of Stranger Things was really important.
I would say for me it was the final scene, the final scene that I shot, but also the final scene of the show.
This sequence features the younger generation of characters gathered in a basement playing Dungeons & Dragons. It’s indeed a core element of the show since its beginning:
Which is the kids, well the younger generation of kids down in the basement playing D&D, when it all sort of comes full circle and it becomes what Stranger Things, I think, is centered around which is about the wonders of childhood, the wonders of love. I think it’s such a magical scene and it was such a joy to film.
Since its debut on Netflix in 2016, Stranger Things has become a defining series blending science fiction, 1980s nostalgia, and human relationships. Its recurring use of Dungeons & Dragons symbolizes imagination, friendship, and the spirit of childhood. Nell Fisher’s comments confirm that the show’s conclusion remains faithful to these core themes : a return to its roots, centered on characters, relationships, and a new generation she now helps represent.
