Rose McGowan believes Shannen Doherty should have appeared in the Charmed finale.

In Paris for the Book of Shadows Con, Rose McGowan, known for playing Paige Matthews in the series Charmed, shared her thoughts on the final episode that aired in 2006. The actress spoke both about the emotions she felt during filming. She also mentioned an idea that, in her opinion, could have made the moment even more symbolic : the return of Shannen Doherty.

The memory of filming the final episode of Charmed

Broadcast between 1998 and 2006, Charmed marked an entire generation of viewers with the story of the Halliwell sisters. Three witches fighting the forces of evil. After eight seasons, the series came to an end with a final episode designed to bring closure to the family’s story.

Rose McGowan, who joined the series in season 4 as Paige, the half-sister of Piper and Phoebe, particularly remembers that day of filming. She explains: “I think it was very beautiful. I just remember the emotions of the day, and the sensation of it ending.”

This testimony highlights the special atmosphere surrounding the conclusion of the series. Especially as the team realized they were filming the very last scenes in the Charmed universe.

The absence of Shannen Doherty in the Charmed finale, noted by Rose McGowan

Before Rose McGowan joined the show, Charmed originally centered on three sisters: Prue, Piper, and Phoebe. The character of Prue was played by Shannen Doherty. The actress left the series at the end of season 3, following the death of her character in the story.

Starting in the following season, Paige Matthews, played by Rose McGowan, was introduced as the Halliwells’ long-lost half-sister, allowing the show to maintain the dynamic of the “Power of Three.”

Because of this transition, Rose McGowan and Shannen Doherty never met on the set of the series. However, their paths crossed later on.

The friendship between Shannen Doherty and Rose McGowan, formed after Charmed

The two actresses developed a friendship several years after Charmed finished airing. This connection was notably strengthened through their mutual friend Holly Marie Combs, who played Piper Halliwell in the series.

Conventions dedicated to the Charmed universe also played an important role in bringing former cast members together. These events gave the actresses the opportunity to share memories with fans and build relationships outside of the filming environment.

In this context, Rose McGowan’s comments about the series finale take on a particular meaning. They highlight what a symbolic return of Shannen Doherty could have represented to conclude the story of the Halliwell sisters.

During the panel, when a fan asked Rose what she would have added to the series finale, someone in the audience shouted “Shannen Doherty.” Paige’s actress responded: “That’s a good point. That would be the natural thing to do.”
